            I recently wrote a book on stave shell drum building. The book has sold a few copies and is a success. I have heard back from some of the buyers and they are extremely happy with the information contained in the book.

            It is all my perspective on building stave shell snare drums. There is information contained in the book that is based on my own experiences at drum shell building. You won’t see this information anywhere else. I believe the book will go on to sell very well and I am very excited about it.

            All the other drum builders that I have checked out keep their building experiences to themselves. They aren’t interested in sharing their information with anyone. I can under stand that mindset. It’s their information and it took some time to accumulate that information. I believe that every stave shell drum builder has their own way of going about the process of building and turning down a drum shell 

            I believe in sharing that information with others. It will still take time and hard work for people to become successful at stave shell drum building. There is so much to learn that can only be learned through personal experience. Experience that can only come by building stave shells over a long period of time. Buying the book and using that information will shorten the learning experience for the buyers of the book. It will guide them in the right direction.

            My experience of drum shell building has been a trial and error process. It has taken me a long time to become the builder that I am now. I measure my success by how much knowledge I have accumulated over time and how good of a job I can do on a drum now. I can build a high quality drum for my customers and know that they will get a life time of playing enjoyment out of that drum.

             I need to add that the book was my wife Maureen’s idea. It took a couple of years of her encouragement for me to write the book. She has allowed me to take the time needed to become a drum builder and continues to support me today. Without her I wouldn’t be building drums and would never have written a book on the subject. My success means a lot to the both of us. So I continue to try to be successful and look to the future and hope things really come together for the both of us.
